This workshop will be an in-depth exploration of natural dyes and botanical prints and the relationship between them. We will focus mainly on expanding the classical color spectrum of the leaf print towards much brighter and diverse shades.
During the three-and-a half-day workshop students will be exposed to complex technical aspects of botanical printing and dyeing using all kinds of natural materials such as wool, silk, cotton, rayon and more.
We will learn about mordants for protein and animal fibers.
We will investigate and experiment with botanical dyes such as madder, weld and indigo as well as plants that can be found in our surroundings.
We will be studying different effects of botanical prints from sharp and bold to water color effects and monochromatics.
We will practice symmetrical prints and asymmetrical folding and tying with fabrics and different methods of cooking bundles.
Special attention will be paid to achieving print results in vivid colors.
